CPCS - Construction Plant Competence Scheme
MDH Plant Training is an approved CPCS test centre and our trainers and testers are able to deliver tests on most categories of plant. (see list below)
CPCS Technical Test
The technical test is a pass/fail course and covers the safety and operation of the specified machine. There is a theory test (questions and answers) and a practical test (tests the operators ability).
Theory Test
The operator must have a valid Health & Safety pass (within 2 years of applying for the CPCS theory test)
The theory test is taken on a one-to-one basis with a CPCS Tester and a maximum time limit of 1 ¼ hours per test
The theory test must be passed before the practical test can be attempted
Practical Test
The operator must have passed the theory test within 6 months of the practical test date
The practical test is taken on a one-to-one basis with a CPCS Tester and there are different time limits for each category of plant. Eg. Forward Tipping Dumper = 1 ¼ hours / Telescopic Handler = 2 hours / Excavator – 360 (above 10T) = 3 ¼ hours
CPCS Red Trained Operator Card
Upon successfully completing the technical test, the operator will receive a CPCS 2-year red trained operator card.
Once the operator has received the red card, they will need to achieve 300 operating hours on each category of plant and also, complete an NVQ Level II in Plant & Machinery Operations within the 2 year period in order to upgrade to a CPCS blue competence card.
CPCS Blue Competent Card
This is a 5-year card issued by CPCS to operators who have met CPCS requirements for a blue card and have achieved the relevant NVQ
